A man called Pehr Henrik Ling a Swedish Physiologist introduced massage to Europe. Based on techniques he learned whilst traveling and incorporating known techniques passed on by the Greek, Egyptian and Roman tradition, he formalized and developed a system of massage, now internationally recognised as Swedish Massage.
It can be relaxing or stimulating and has been used for both physical and psychological reasons.
