Common Questions and Myths Uncovered

  • What is hypnosis?

It is the name for the state achieved when the body and mind are relaxed.

  • Will I be in a deep sleep ?

No. When you achieve a state of relaxation of Mind and Body, your awareness is heightened.

  • Does the therapist have control over me ?

No. When in hypnosis, your subconscious mind will only accept messages that are beneficial to you. The subconscious mind contains your "survival instinct" and would never allow you to do anything you didn't want to.

The subconscious is also the part of the mind that stores all information and controls the functions of your body (heart, breathing etc – what is called "autonomic").

An example of conscious/subconscious mind at work:

When you start to learn to drive you have to think consciously about all that you do. When you know how to drive the information is stored and becomes automatic, freeing up your conscious mind to do other things.

  • How many sessions will I need ?

This depends on what you would like hypnosis to achieve. However a good guide is 4-6 sessions. (Hypnosis works on the basis that positive messages to the subconscious part of the brain will be accepted through repetition).
